Astrology - A sheer stupidity!

I am skeptic about influence of sun sign or moon sign on people’s behavior. Suppose your sun-sign says you are an extrovert, social, very polite and moon sign says you are an introvert, independent, arrogant and reserved, which one to believe?

There are only 12 sun signs and 27 moon signs, is that mean the whole 6 billion plus population has to behave in only 12 different ways or 27 different styles?

All weekly predictions based on sun signs almost have general and vague statements like "you will be happy for first half of the week", "you will travel to different places", "and you will meet your love partner". Don’t you think these stupid and vague predictions will hold good for any damn people.

Astrologer will say "Sun is in 12th place" and it is bad for your career. So go to this temple, that temple. If you believe his words and starts spending your time in pilgrimage tour, then only your boss will take serious note of you.

Gemology is one more stupidity added up in this modern era. Gemologist may foresee some bad happenings in your life and suggest you some stones. Ask him to do it for charity or less money, he will give all bull shit reasons. "Gems are precious stones", "wearing impure gems will worsen your state"... Almost all the stones he suggests will be non-precious stones. But still people spend lots of money in those.

Now people are even predicting human nature by the way you sleep. Come on, I can’t stop laughing at this. I sleep in 3-4 different styles during the course of my sleep. Does that mean I have different character each time I turn back in bed?

People may argue astrology is an ancient science. If that is the case, why don't we think of offering B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) degree for studying astrology?

If you get enthused by these predictions, go here and be happy to know your death date also.

PS: Something to cheer about. The number of my friends in orkut crossed 200. And the number of scrap messages for me in orkut crossed 1000. Silly little things, yet these give some joy in these teasing times.

Wonderla Weekend!

I and my friends were in Wonderla this weekend. This theme park near Bangalore has both dry rides and water rides. The usual suspects in theme parks viz. wave pool, twisters, splash cars... catches attention easily. The new and risky ones like techno jump, Insanity are few uncomfortable rides, but give the enough adrenaline rush :)

Romantic Faux pas

"Hee, hee..."innu vazhirathu romba sagajampa. I was seeing Kushi Tamil movie in TV today. In one scene, Vijay tries to pull words from Jyothika (Jo) to know whether she likes him or not. Dialogues go like this:

V: Jenni, Unnaku yara romba pudikum?
J : mm...Appa. Ennaku appava rumba pudikum!
V: (got surprised) Correct.Appa-thane nammakku uyir koduthathoo. Appa than ellamum. Next..??
J : Amma
V: (got surprised, but getting little irritated also) Athuvam sari. Ammavum appa polathan. Appuram??
J : Mani Ratnam
V: (confused)??
J : film director
V: (got irritated) mm..Right. He is a good director. Nice film maker. Next
J : AR Rahman
V: (got highly irritated) Music director? Amammm. He is a nice music director. Jeni. Ithellam common-a ellarukum pudikira people. Unnaku particular-aa pecial-aa yara pudikum???
J : (now she got confused) Nee yariyo pudikumiunnu sollanum ninakira! ;) Yarunu sollu, naa pudikiuma pudikathainnu sollren??
V: Hee..hee...hee...
He escapes from the scene with simple vazhiyals smile.

Hope you guys has faced similar situation in your life many a times. You might have wanted to know whether your girl friend is also interested in you. One moment I could remember is: I have a close friend (who is a girl). I love speaking to her, love spending time with her. Basically I am very much interested in her. But I didn’t know what her feelings towards me are. The best idea I could get was to write this blog post. How-to propose your girl? I sent the link to that friend after publishing the post in my blog and asked for her comments ;) Her comments and my replies are strictly classified as vazhiyals ;) If you missed the action before, refer the comments in that post.

Dont just stop with a smile. Feel free to share your jollu experience ;)

Dear Dad and Mom, I Love You!

In past, I fell into the trap of forgetting my roots. There are times where I fought with my dad and mum and I didn't obey their words. I don't speak much with my dad and mum daily. I was trained to live independent from undergrad days. The simple conversations we have can't be even classified as chats between normal friends. Dad has an explanation for this"after certain age, you got to be independent; parents have to maintain a distance to let their kid grow up". I even crib to my parents that we don't go for family outings. The best picnics I remember were to nearby temples.

My telephone conversations with my parents seldom change. A typical chat:
Dad: "Hi Satheesh, Nalla irukiya?"
Me: "Mmm Dad, nalla irukken. Neenga eppadi irukenga? Amma nalla irukangala?"
Dad: "Ooruku eppo varey?"
Me: "Theriyilipa, And I get bored if I come home. May be I will come during festival times"
Dad: "Ammakite pesariya?! Wait pannu"
Me: "mmmm..."
Mom: "Nalla irukiya da, dance class nalla pocha, dinner acha?!" and the usual queries
Me: "Amma...neriya question kettu paduthathey ma"
Mom: "Ooruku eppo varey"
Me:" Who is there in mayuram ma...I will get bored if I come there ma"
Mom: "Naangala irukkomila??..."
Me: "mmm..."
Mom: "seri...decide panni sollu. I will get tickets for you"
Me: "mmm...Good night ma. Appavukkum good night sollu ma."

The telephonic conversations we have shows the distance I had with my parents. The more I grow in my career; more I got into the trap of forgetting my roots. I would not have reached this place if my parents decide to curb me. It is the freedom they gave made me a human being. I never had bad time in my life before. I never cried much in my life. I never had to work hard to achieve more in life. Though I haven’t born with silver spoon, I never had any trouble during my formative years.Even then I cribbed day before yesterday. "Naan unga kooda close illathathukka karanum, neenga enna seriya vallakula" (You haven't brought me well, that's the reason why I am not coming close to you)

Even though I fight with parents in the past, they never let me down. There was a time I had SMS fight with my dad.

Me: "Kids tell their interests to parents once in a while. But if parents don't listen to them, that kills the spirit in kids. They don’t come ever afterwards to parents. I behaved much matured manner by coming to you and asking for permission. But you and mom spoilt the whole scene by keeping me in dark and spoke wrong things to right people."
Dad: "Dear Satheesh. I accept that we behaved in immature way. We have grown up in village side where all these are still bad. We opposed what we found is wrong. But I love you. I can accept anything for you to make you live your life happily". These are the times I fought in a childish way with my parents. But my parents love me even with all this inhibitions of mine.

They know what's going on in my mind even without speaking single word. This time when I went home, I wasn't in my high spirits. Both never failed to notice that big let down in my face. I was dull for the whole day. At the end of the day, mom and dad called me.
Mom: "I know things went wrong. Let's talk it out"
Dad: "It's tough time for us to see our son like this...please calm down. Let's speak out the issues"
All these words came from them even after me let them down in the past. I couldn't stop breaking down before them. I was crying in my mother’s lap for hours.
Me: "I haven't done any mistake. But my life is royally messed up now. What wrong I did to you ma? Why haven't you believed me?" I was pointing my fingers on my mom for all troubles in my life. How stupid I am?
Mom: "Satheesh. Nee onnum thappu panneleda. Let me be the one who has to suffer for killing your feelings. Please don't break down. I am just holding my life to make your life happier."
Whatever I speak, I know my mom won't hate me. I am not a great human being; I blame others for my mistake. I have so much wrong on my side to correct myself. Even then I know my parents will love me forever.

In evening, while I was starting back to Bangalore,
Mom: "Satheesh, tickets ethutiya? Change irukka? water bottle vennuma?"
Me: "Amma....pls. Nee teacher-a irukalam. Athukaga, neriya kelvi kettu, romba paduthathey ma"
Mom: "mmm...unnaku parents pasam-ina eppo puriyathuda!!"
I didn't reply then. I probably can’t understand my parents love for me in the whole life. Amma and Appa are always like that. I am always like this -last worlds' freak. We never going to talk like close friends. Yet I love my dad and mom!

Dear dad and mom,
I am really feeling sorry for letting you down in the past. Really sorry ma! Really sorry Appa!! I know you will accept my sorry. I know you don't even need my sorry or I love you message. But I love you. I love you so much; love you more than anyone else in this world.

Random rambles

  • I saw "Something, Something, Unakkum, Enakkum" movie this weekend. It came out very well. Definitely, this post is not the movie review. J The movie plot is quite impractical, but still it won because people want lovers to fight out any damn problem. Anything is fair in love. Isn't it?
  • Why Techies slog back in office for long time? Techie and late night office hours become inseparable twins. Managers in tech startups rely heavily on their engineers. The tradeoff between the business development and engineering innovation is not arrived at most of time. Being a company with hunger to grow more, marketing guys push for more product development opportunities. Engineering team with enthusiasm to support the company, tend to push their limits to meet customer demand. This is what we call slogging. Slogging for long time give a kind of satisfaction to Techies. In the end of the day, if you could win some more pennies for your company, that's the winning spirit. Work is first love for me. The 9-hour job schedule can be implemented in big companies. I am not saying that these guys don't have enthusiasm to work more. But in those biggies, planning and execution are also counted. When systems fall in place, slogging can be reduced. But I personally hate working for 9 hours only for a day. It gives a feeling of working in government companies. L
  • My favorite song from the movie "Parijatham". I couldn't tell which is USP of this song: Love, melody, camera, that rain background, casts… But it got that magic in it.

Long weekend

After long time, I am traveling home bound. Gandhi Jayanthi with pooja holidays gave all Techies a long weekend here. Hope all would have been back to work after the weekend; I am still away from my office. I am on continuous travel. Will update you with photos of the trip later.

  • Saturday was Ayutha Pooja. I was with my sithappa and his factory on this occasion. My sithappa is my role model; his story is always inspiring for first generation entrepreneurs. He is expanding his factory here in Chennai and also in Middle East.
  • On last Sunday, Did you guys noticed a full-page advertisement in leading newspapers speaking about AV Birla scholarships and candidates who secured it? Mahesh Nair, IIM-C PGDM student is also in the list. He is my CAT exam trainer in TIME koramangala institute. Enjoyed that proud moment to see a known friend bestowed with that rare honor. Kudos Mahesh! Best wishes.
  • Monday is celebrated as Vijayadashmi, day for goddess of education, Saraswathi in this part of world. We went to Saraswathi temple nearby my town. It's for my niece who will be on school rolls from next year. :) This temple is always been dear to my heart. During my plus two exam, my friends and me made a trip to this temple. The belief is to get your new exam pen and yourself blessed by Saraswathi to score best marks :) The temple has grown more popular these days and has now a big white graffiti board where you can scribble your exam registration number. Don't know how poor goddess can cater to so many pupil's request fro good marks??!! :)
  • Wednesday in Karnataka wide bandh as I heard last before leaving Bangalore. Is it legal to call for bandh these days? Bandh sucks :(
